As a preventative measure we recommend the "sealing" of all erupting permanent molars with a protective resin, thereby protecting the surface area of your child’s teeth in the most natural way possible.
The very nature of molars means the surface of these teeth are naturally uneven and often have deep pitted areas which can be difficult to clean when brushing, which can lead to decay if left untreated. The first adult molars normally erupt at about six years of age, followed by further molars at about eleven.
To discourage decay and to protect the tooth in early development we recommend fissure sealants, this is a very quick and painless procedure. The tooth is cleaned and dried and a special resin applied which is then light cured. This is a single treatment per molar and helps to keep these teeth germ and bacteria free if excessive wear does occur, which is unusual, we will recommend re-applying the resin if necessary.
